POSITION SUMMARY:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              

Under the direction of the Director of Operations  - Programs, assistance of the Youth & Teen Coordinator and in accordance with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the Youth and Teen Assistant will provide a quality experience to children that focuses on the YMCA values:  Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, Caring and Faith.  This position assumes responsibility for helping children in the Hartley Drive Family YMCA’s Youth Programs develop and strengthen physical, social and emotional skills.  Hours for this position would include working up to 40 hours a week during the summer, 29 hours a week during the school year and as needed for special/community events.

Requirements:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Adheres and complies with the YMCA of High Point Employee Manual, Policy & Procedures Manual, and Code of Conduct including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency preparedness.
  2. Ensures the health, safety and well-being of children in the program by providing close supervision.
  3. Plans, assists and executes activities, special events and community events.
  4. Supervises and participates in recreational activities.
  5. Ensures parents/guardians are kept well informed of all positive and negative behavior.
  6. Communicates and collaborates with the Director of Operations – Programs daily.
  7. Maintains program site and equipment.
  8. Tracks financial reports and communicate with parents/guardians regarding outstanding balances on a regular basis.
  9. Leads and implements the Counselor in Training Program for Camp Pioneer.
  10. Assists in the distribution of program information.
  11. Reviews and files all Summer Camp and Afterschool registration forms.
  12. Assists in interviewing, supervising and mentoring staff within the Youth & Teen department.
  13. Attends and participates in all staff meetings and trainings.
  14. Must have the competencies, skills and proven leadership ability to successfully carry out the YMCA mission, goals and vision for serving the community.
  15. Builds relationships through all interactions; maintains regular, clear and concise communication within area of responsibility.
  16. Represents the YMCA with key community organizations and events as required.
  17. Conducts behavior at all times in a professional manner to reflect positively on the YMCA.
  18. Participates with other members of management in the YMCA’s fundraising campaign.
  19. Performs other duties and tasks as requested by immediate supervisor to facilitate efficient and effective production of the YMCA.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum age of 18.
  • CPR/First Aid and AED Certification within the first 30 days of employment.
  • Completion of YMCA program-specific training.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Previous experience working with children preferred.
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate activities.
