The High Point YMCA has been blessed with an established $1.8 million endowment that is managed by an independent Board of Directors. Through requests made by the YMCA staff leadership and the support of the YMCA Board, programs and projects are funded annually to serve identified needs of the community, YMCA facilities and the membership base. In 2018, endowment funding enabled the establishment of the Teen Summer Life Skills Program, and in years prior supported capital needs and enhanced program services.
As the need for programs and services grows throughout the High Point Association, the limited funds of the current endowment will be outpaced by the need. Programs and facilities at the Chavis Y have been made possible through government funding, grants and the generosity of its donors. In order for the branch to establish deep and lasting roots, the endowment will allow the operation to move from a year to year model to a longstanding, secure operational entity. In addition, the YMCA is currently able to offer access to all regardless of their ability to pay the standard fees through financial scholarships. As participation in the YMCA increases, it is imperative the Y can serve everyone, despite their financial challenges. The Foundation for the Future Campaign will create capacity for the YMCA to grow in its reach across programs, facilities and services to all.
