Y Readers Director

Description:
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the VP of Advancement and in coordination with the Y Readers Operations Advisor, school administration and branch staff and consistent with the mission of the YMCA, the Y Readers Director will be responsible for planning, organizing, implementing and supervising the Y Readers Program and associated staff at the assigned sites, providing staff and participants with the opportunity to develop physically, mentally, spiritually and socially.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Manage daily operations, including hiring and supervision of assigned staff teams and performance feedback. Provide coaching and feedback to staff, supporting them to meet performance expectations.
- Analyze student data in collaboration with teachers to inform instruction and evaluate progress that includes management of test administration to ensure high validity rate
- Maintain ongoing communication and collaboration with YMCA leaders, school administrators, and site staff regarding Y Readers program that includes scheduling with branch and school leaders for program curriculum and enrichment activities
- Develop calendars and schedules and budgets for all program activities and staffing that includes ordering supplies, classroom set-up, field trip schedules, etc.
- Develop, implement, and monitor student behavior plans in conjunction with teachers and parents
- Review and approve lesson plans to ensure fidelity markers are met
- Ensure that site reaches and maintains full enrollment through management of student recruitment and parent communication
- Responsible for ensuring all applicable data is collected and reported with accuracy. Work with Y staff to message Y Readers success.
- Plan and lead parent meetings and workshops
- Develop and oversee arrival and dismissal procedures to ensure student safety
- Plan and monitor quality volunteer experiences
- Fill in for staff absences as needed
- Provide small group and/or individual instruction to students
- Ensure that staff maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment
- Represent and collaborate on behalf of the YMCA with partner agencies, grant funding opportunities, board presentations, etc. that supports the success of the program.
- Assist with other duties as assigned
Requirements:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree preferred
- Current NC teaching certification required
- Minimum 3 years of experience teaching literacy in K-3 required
- Minimum 1 year of leadership/supervision experience preferred
- Recommendation by principal required
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in fast paced environment
- Computer literate. Knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word, Outlook, etc., and ability to learn and utilize other technology platforms
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Demonstrate professionalism in all circumstances and with all stakeholders
- Strong problem solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing needs and circumstances
- Training and certifications required by the Quality Standards within allotted time frame including CPR
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time
- Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids
- Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 65 pounds in weight
- Must be able to lift and carry supplies weighing up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time
- Requires bending, pulling, crouching, leaning, kneeling, and walking, pushing, climbing and
jumping
- Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing in such a way as to be easily understood by children, staff and parents
- Visual and auditory ability to supervise and respond to critical situations with children Must be able to move freely and quickly through the facility and alternate program locations including outdoors and field trips
- Ability to get in a swimming pool up to 5 feet in depth and assist students
