POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the VP of Operations, the Sports Director will provide leadership, coordination, supervision, organization, implementation and administrative support for high quality Youth and Adult Sports programs at the Grubb Family YMCA. The Sports Director will be required to work nights, weekends and holidays. This is position is part-time and hours of work should not exceed 29 per week.  This position must perform program responsibilities in accordance with the policies, goals, mission, values, and objectives established by the YMCA of High Point.

 

 

Requirements:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Adheres and complies with the YMCA of High Point Employee Manual, Policy & Procedures Manual, and Code of Conduct including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency preparedness.
  2. Works closely with, and follows the strategic direction of the Association Sports Director. Directs and supervises program activities to meet YMCA objectives. Expands Youth and Adult Sports programming within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  3. Recruits, interviews, hires, leads, develops, evaluates and schedules sports staff, volunteer coaches and officials for the Grubb Family YMCA and completes payroll duties in a timely manner.
  4. Develops and manages the budget for Grubb Family YMCA.
  5. Secures and schedules athletic fields and facilities. Transports and sets up equipment for games and practices; monitors and purchases necessary sporting equipment as budget permits. Ensure proper maintenance and cleaning of all sports facilities.
  6. Creates teams from paid and financially assisted registrations. Works with the Association Sports Director to organize and conduct parent orientation meetings, and training and meetings for coaches.
  7. Ensures background checks are done annually on all volunteers and submits to Association Sports Director.
  8. Develops and distributes team practice and game schedules; ensures qualified sports officials are scheduled; develops and distributes sports rules, guidelines and handbooks.
  9. Purchases and distributes team uniforms and awards.
  10. Assists in the marketing and distribution of youth sports program information, organize and schedule program registrations. May review and process program scholarship applications.
  11. Secure sponsorships for team or leagues where appropriate.
  12. Collaborates with Association Sports Director to ensure all Sports Programs are delivered at a high quality.
  13. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  14. Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and special events.
  15. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  16. Assists with Program Committee meetings.
  17. Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation
    in program.
  18. Represents the YMCA with key community organizations and events as required.
  19. Prioritizes and attends all Grubb Family YMCA leadership and board meetings.
  20. Conducts behavior at all times in a professional manner to reflect positively on the YMCA.
  21. Participates with other members in YMCA’s fundraising campaign.
  22. Perform other duties and tasks as requested by immediate supervisor to facilitate efficient and effective production of the YMCA.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum age of 21.
  2. Completion within 30 days of hire CPR/First Aid/O2 Certifications.  Redwoods Trainings: Managing Your Risk of Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens, Child Sexual Abuse Prevention and Appropriate Touch.
  3. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  4. Basic knowledge of rules, regulations and implementation of the following sports and sports leagues:  youth and adult basketball, youth soccer, youth t-ball, and youth and adult volleyball.

  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple programs/projects.
