Students graduate from YMCA reading program
On Thursday, the YMCA of High Point held a graduation ceremony for 13 rising third-graders at Oakview Elementary, who participated in the inaugural Y Readers Summer Learning Loss Prevention Program at the Hartley YMCA.
For five weeks this summer, the youths spent their morning in literacy instruction and afternoons enjoying enrichment activities under the guidance of certified teachers. The program was funded from The Foundation for a Healthy High Point and private donors. The YMCA of High Point joins 77 Y associations serving more than 1,400 youth annually across the country in offering the program developed specifically to prevent summer learning loss.
