Out of School Teen Membership

The YMCA Out of School Teen Membership program is an association-wide initiative we began during the summer of 2018. The goal of this program is to engage 13-17 year-olds in our community in all 3 of our local branches - Chavis, Grubb, and Hartley. This FREE program allows all kids in our service area to have a Y experience.

In 2019, the program was expanded from a summer program to a year-round initiative. All teens who are enrolled enjoy the Y any day that our public schools are not in class.  In the summer of 2019, the YMCA collaborated with the High Point Chamber of Commerce to facilitate Teen Leadership High Point. Twenty-six teens participated in the pilot of the 6-week program, modeled after the Chamber's 10-month adult Leadership High Point curriculum, which gave the youth a greater exposure to our community and it's leaders.

The Out of School Teen Membership program is funded by donations from the YMCA Foundation and the High Point Community Foundation, as well as targeted fundraisers, such as our Annual Clay Shoot

This year, we focused our #GivingTuesday campaign on our Teen Membership Program. With a goal of raising $3,000 - the cost of allowing 10 teens to have free access to the Y for 1 year - we hoped to bring more teens "Home" to the Y, where they can feel safe.  For more information on how you can support this campaign, click on the following link: "Home" for the Holidays.
