The Congdon Foundation Generously Names Chavis YMCA Child Care Center for Community Leader Carlvena Foster

June 20, 2022

Since 1943, the Carl Chavis Memorial Branch of
the YMCA of High Point has served as a safe and healthy community hub for adults,
teens and children. Recently at a luncheon of community leaders, David
Congdon and the Y announced that through the Congdon Foundation’s
generous donation and their intention to recognize YMCA and community
leader, Carlvena Foster, the Chavis Y Child Care Center will now be named
in her honor the CARLVENA FOSTER CHILD CARE CENTER.

“The Congdon Family contribution to the Carl Chavis Memorial YMCA is an
investment in the children and teens being served in this neighborhood,” explains
David Congdon, President of the Earl and Kathryn Congdon Family Foundation.
“Many families face challenging situations and the Chavis Y reaches out to support
families in so many ways.  Carlvena Foster has been an incredible pillar of
leadership for this community, the permanent naming of the Child Care Center in
her honor is a tribute to her heart to see children succeed in life. We are proud to
stand alongside her in this important work.”

For over 20 years, Foster has provided unparalled leadership to the Chavis YMCA as
the Executive Director. During that time, programs and services have grown and
thrived and the location has changed, but one thing has remained steadfast and
that is Foster’s faithful dedication to the youth in the community.
