Randolph Hospital Community Health Foundation Awards Grant to Grubb YMCA

March 25, 2016

The Carl and Linda Grubb Family YMCA was awarded a grant of $3,897.50 from the Randolph Hospital Community Health Foundation.
These funds will be used by the Y to purchase accessible cardio equipment to give seniors and those with limited mobility safe options for exercise.

The Randolph Hospital Community Health Foundation awarded 15 health and wellness grants totaling $98,362 this year.  This is the 19th year that the Foundation has awarded health and wellness grants to organizations across Randolph County.

The Y has purchased a NuStep machine as well as a row machine with the funds from the Hospital Foundation.  Both machines allow those with limited mobility to safely and easily exercise without the risk of falling. This new equipment will be in place and available for use by the end of March.

“By funding additional cardio equipment at the Grubb Family YMCA, we are able to expand the physical fitness options available and hopefully, encouraging more and more use, helping to create a healthier community,” said April Thornton, president, Randolph Hospital Community Health Foundation. “We value the work the YMCA does and are excited to partner with them on this grant.”

Currently, the Y has one NuStep machine and a few recumbent bikes which provide opportunities for accessible exercise.  However, the demand is so high that these machines are often filled and members plan their visits based on when the equipment might be available.  The additional machines funded by the grant will help to alleviate the pressure on the current equipment by providing more options to members.

“Because of our growing number of SilverSneaker and Silver & Fit members, we are seeing an increase in the demand of accessible equipment.  The Y is so grateful to the Randolph Hospital Community Health Foundation for helping us meet this need in our community” said David Ozmore, CEO, YMCA of High Point.
