COVID-19 Updates

Update July 13, 2020:

The YMCA is still awaiting the date for the Governor's reopening of Phase 3, when the Y anticipates being able to open our indoor health and wellness facilities to members.  Until that time, we are being thoughtful and intentional in our reopening process that follows current state and local guidelines.  We are opening more services to benefit our members and the community in a safe manner.  These include:

Programs and Services already underway:

As you participate in Y programs and services, be sure to review our safety protocols.  We realize this is a challenging time and we eagerly await the opportunity to see our Y family.  Look for more services to open in the coming weeks, such as the RENOVATED Hartley Indoor Pool, branch Splash Pads and more health and wellness opportunities.  We will keep you updated as we learn more about our full facility opening with the Governor's Phase 3 announcement.

Update July 8, 2020:

The pools at the Hartley and Grubb YMCAs are slated to open soon!  Renovation work is wrapping up at the Hartley Y and we think you will enjoy our new look and improved facilities.  We expect to open the Hartley pool in early July.  HVAC repairs at the Grubb Y are underway with an expected opening in late June.  Additionally, we will be opening our Splash Pads soon for family fun!  Look for more information to come as we determine specific opening dates and procedures for these facilities.

Update June 3, 2020: YMCA Opens Outdoor Group Exercise & Day Camp

For the safety of our Y members, program participants and staff, we are being thoughtful and intentional in our reopening process. With Governor Cooper’s update on Phase 2 of the state’s reopening, the YMCA has implemented its reopening plan within state and local guidelines to serve members in a safe manner. At this time the State’s Phase 2 reopening does not allow fitness facilities to operate, thus our Y indoor health and wellness facilities will remain closed; however, we are initiating the opening of many programs to serve our members and the community.

In accordance with state and local guidance, we are excited to announce the reopening of programs and services for current members of the YMCA of High Point that include access to outdoor group exercise classes and fitness offerings, licensed childcare, as well as the early opening of YMCA Day Camp to serve the growing need for childcare and youth development. Anticipated pool and splash pad opening plans are forthcoming. Please read below for details of the operations of these programs.

Even as our Y facilities begin to welcome back members in a limited capacity, we will continue to serve our community with many virtual and essential programs and services.

We realize this is a time of rapid change, and we anticipate resuming a broader offering of programs and services in the coming weeks as the State allows. We eagerly await the opportunity to see our Y family again soon, and to continue serving you, our friends and neighbors!

  • Outdoor Group Exercise & Fitness Programs. For schedule and guidelines for participation, visit our website.
  • Day Camp now underway. Y staff have developed a fun-filled summer program within safety guidelines. All of our Y branches have a proven track record of serving children for many months with childcare for essential workers. For camp offerings and registration information, visit our website.
  • YMCA pools and splash pads can open within the State’s phase 2 guidelines. As our Y’s have been closed, we have taken this time to complete extensive upgrades to our indoor pools including an extensive renovation of the Hartley pool and extensive HVAC maintenance at the Grubb Y. The Grubb pool is expected to open in mid-June and the Hartley pool to open in early July.

Update May 21, 2020: Facility and Program Update

On May 20, Governor Roy Cooper provided an update on Phase 2 of the state’s reopening. The YMCA will not be able open our facilities to member access until further notice.  The Y will continue to offer Licensed Childcare, Childcare for Essential Workers and beginning on June 1, Day Camp for members and the community.  We will continue to determine services that can be offered by the YMCA within the current restrictions and in the best interest of safety for our members and staff.  For more information on childcare offerings, contact your local branch.  Check back here or our webpage often for more updates.  Stay Well.
