Child Watch

General Function:
Under the guidance of the Aquatic Director, the babysitter safely and effectively supervises children of members and guest while they are using our facility. The Babysitter is responsible for the activities in Child Watch and providing a safe, well-rounded, enriching environment for infants and children.
Essential Function:
- Auditory ability to respond to all incidents.
- Physical ability to perform emergency procedures and routine first aid tasks.
- Abilities to enforce safety regulations, emergency procedures, and appropriate discipline techniques.
- Physical ability to operate emergency exits and perform emergency procedures.
- Ability to lead and participate in activities that will make the Child Watch a fun, safe, and enriching environment.
Principle Activities:
- Supervise nursery during assigned hours providing attention and care for all children according to need.
- Ensure safety of all children at all times taking careful measures to prevent accidents.
- Maintain cleanliness of nursery.
- Clean Child Watch upon arrival and departure.
- Follow appropriate sanitary procedures when performing first aid or changing and disposing of soiled diapers or lines.
- Work with entire staff to implement all activities in a safe and nurturing environment.
- Use positive discipline techniques when addressing children.
- Attend all trainings and staff meetings.
- Inform Aquatic Director of needs for Child Watch and any incidents that occur.
- Be at work at scheduled times or let the Aquatic Director know at least two days in advance who is covering your shift.
- All staff must wear YMCA staff shirt and staff ID while on duty.
- Demonstrate and teach the YMCA character values of Respect, Honesty, Responsibility, and Caring to the children.
- Enforce rules of Child Watch and Hartley Drivel Family YMCA policies in a mature, caring manner.
Requirements:
Know How:
Must have graduated from high school (unless approved by Youth Program Director). Must have the ability to communicate well with children and adults. Must have the ability to be mature positive role model. Must possess experience and enthusiasm in caring for young children. Must obtain and maintain current First Aid and CPR certifications. Must have thorough knowledge of YMCA OF GREATER HIGH POINT Personnel Policies and Child Watch policies and procedures.
