Summer Day Camp
Camp Pioneer
For many years, the YMCA Camp Pioneer day camp program,
accredited by the American Camping Association, has provided children
in the High Point and Jamestown areas with a fun and safe place
to spend their summer days. Camp Pioneer runs Monday through Friday
from 7:30 am to 6 pm on the Hartley Drive Family YMCA grounds at
150 West Hartley Drive in High Point.
Campers will have the opportunity to participate
in activities such as swimming, crafts, fishing, canoeing, archery,
skits, tower climbing, songs, sports, horseback riding, games, hiking,
field trips and much more. Pioneer counselors are carefully selected
and thoroughly trained in YMCA child care principles, CPR and First
Aid. Sessions run 10 weeks during the summer months and are for
youth entering into kindergarten to 10th grade. Call the Hartley
Drive Family YMCA for more information at 869-0151.

Camp Essentials
Campers should bring a good attitude because you are required to be happy!
Be ready to eat applesauce in the morning and freeze pops in the afternoon because we provide two snacks a day at camp.
Bring your swimsuit on Monday/Wednesday/Friday because you do not want to swim in your clothes.
Do not bring cell phones, MP3 players, CD players, or anything you would not want to lose.
Please brush your teeth because you will smile and laugh a lot!
Swim Lessons for Camp Pioneer 2012
YMCA Swim Lessons are available for your camper.
All campers have an opportunity to swim at camp, but enrolling the
camper in a swim lesson gives them a chance to improve their skills
with an instructor. Instructors are available for all levels from
beginner, intermediate to advance (pink) swimmers. The YMCA swim
lessons will focus on Personal Safety, Personal Growth, Stroke Development,
Rescue, Water Sports and Games. If the camper participates in the
swim lesson program, they have a greater chance of moving up to
the next swimming level during camp swim time. Help give your child
a chance to grow personally and build self-confidence in and around
water.
Swim Lessons will take place Monday through
Thursday 8:00 - 8:45AM during each camp session. The
cost is $20 for Orange/Blue Lessons (Beginner/Float Belt) and $16 for Yellow/Green Lessons (Intermediate/Advanced). There
are no make-up classes, so please select carefully when choosing
a session. You may enroll them in as many sessions as you wish,
but space is limited. Pre-registration is required.
Please Note: Class starts promptly at 8:00
AM, we will be escorting the children to the locker room at 7:45
AM. After 7:45 AM please escort your camper to the pool and check
in with the instructor.
