Welcome to the Carl Chavis Memorial Branch YMCA. Like the National Y, our mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. The Carl Chavis Memorial Branch YMCA is named for the first African-American from High Point who lost his life in battle during World War II. The Carl Chavis YMCA is committed to providing the highest quality fitness programs available. We offer state-of-the-art equipment and a comprehensive approach to improving and maintaining your physical well-being. We offer a full range of activities and programs designed to meet you at every level!
What's Happening at Carl Chavis?
- Come out and show us your skills on the dance floor! Motown Ballroom and Line Dancing will be offered beginning in February. Motown Ballroom will be offered every 2nd and 4th Saturday from 9-11am. Learn the Cupid Shuffle, Wobble and much more in our Line Dancing Class that will be offered every Monday from 6:30-7:30pm. Classes are $25 each per month or $40 for both. Download the flyer now!
- MINORITY ACHIEVERS BANQUET
Our annual Minority Achievers Banquet will be held Sunday, February 12 at 3:30pm at the Best Western PLUS High Point Hotel located at 135 South Main Street in High Point.Awards will be presented in seven categories to adults and students who have “demonstrated outstanding leadership, with high personal achievements and made significantcontributions to the life and development of minorities through equity in community affairs, sports, business and education within the High Point community. The 2012 Award recipients are:
Robert “Bob” Brown; President of B&C Associates-Lifetime Achievement Award; Judge William K. “Pete” Hunter-Legacy Award; High Point City Councilwoman Bernita Sims-Public Sector Award; Dr. Lillie M. Jones-Education Award; Cindy Burrell (Hair One Studios)-Business Award; Michael Pittman (State Farm Insurance)-Business Award; Angela McGill; CEO of High Point Housing Authority-Corporate Executive Award; Community Volunteer Sandra Roberts-Unsung Hero Award; Rebekah Stanton (High Point Central)-High School Athlete Award; LaDarius Davis (High Point Central)-High School Scholar Award; Alisha Squires (T. Wingate Andrews)-High School Scholar Award
This red carpet event will also recognize the contributions of the following six “First Ladies of Distinction:”

Ticket prices are $15 for adults and children older than nine. Tickets for younger children are $7.
